It all started with a heart for college campuses.
Saved in college and thrust into ministry, Pastor Matt grew in his burden for the spirituality of students and became a college pastor.
As the Lord gave Pastor Matt a burden to plant a church, he and the leaders of his sending church began to dream about and focus on Atlanta, Georgia. In the summer of 2004, he and a team of six young adults made their way south without jobs or even places to live. The seven church planters came in faith, connected with students on the campuses, and experienced the movement of God first hand as He allowed The Journey Church of Atlanta to flourish.
On August 15, 2004
Journey Church’s doors opened for its very first Sunday service. The Lord gave Journey this mission: To multiply, mobilize, and mature followers of Jesus Christ in a church planting movement.
Since then, God has used Journey to reach the campuses of Georgia Tech, Emory University, Georgia State University, and Oxford College. Unexpectedly, as college students have graduated, many felt God call them to plant roots in Atlanta and build up the body at Journey. This was vital to Journey’s transformation from a solely college church to a multi-generational church with working professionals and families.
In the summer of 2011, God called Journey to move forward again in faith and plant a church in the Research Triangle of North Carolina—Journey Community Church. JCC has witnessed God transforming lives on the campuses of Duke, UNC, and NC State and among many working professionals in the area.
It has been amazing to witness an ordinary church with ordinary people being used by an extraordinary God to do extraordinary things. We invite you to join us on this journey to advance God’s kingdom on the college campuses, in the workplace, and all across the world.
Until He returns,
The Journey Church of Atlanta
The Journey Church of Atlanta is part of a relational network of churches that comprise Acts Ministries International. With a commitment to similar vision and values, along with a desire for accountability and partnership in the Gospel work of the Great Commission, Journey began in August 2004 as one of AMI's first church plants.
“Acts Ministries International (AMI™) began in 2002 with a group of pastors who had a vision to restore the early church that was seen in Acts 2. We envision AMI™ to be more than a denomination or an association. It is a community of churches seeking to model the spirituality, vision, and partnership exemplified in the book of Acts. AMI™ is committed to developing disciples of Christ within our churches, as well as spreading the gospel message to unreached people through church planting and missions work.”
